Top 10 Favorite Sports Movies

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

I love sports. If I’m not at a game, I’m watching one on TV. If I’m not watching sports on TV, I’m playing a sports game on the 360. I’m a huge football and boxing fan, but I enjoy watching everything from golf to rugby. With that being said, it should be no surprise that I also enjoy watching sports movies. I’ve seen just about all of them: everything from the documentaries to the kids movies, from The Pride of the Yankees to Little Giants. Not too many of my friends like sports like I do, if they even like them at all. I usually can’t get them to watch a game with me, but I can get them to watch movies that involve sports. If you think about it, most sports movies aren’t really about sports. They are usually about working together as a team, overcoming adversity, not losing sight of your dreams: things that people can relate to even if they aren’t a sports fan. For me, I appreciate sports movies because it seems like these days, movies are the only place where you can get a sense of the spirit of the game – something that has become all but lost in professional sports. You actually get to see camaraderie  and athletes who play for the love of the game, unlike in the real world where it’s become all about personal stats, egos, and contracts. (more…)

10 Movies to Watch this Halloween

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

It’s getting ready to be that time of year again - Halloween. I’m sure that every movie blog is going to recommend their favorite scary movies to watch on Halloween, so I decided to jump on the bandwagon. Here are my recommendations:

The Exorcist
In my opinion, this is probably the scariest movie of all time – it’s so evil! I remember being traumatized as a young kid after watching this movie for the first time. I couldn’t sleep for weeks. I just knew that I was going to be possessed because I had played with an Ouija board, just like Regan did in the movie. It also didn’t help that my mom explained that the movie was based on a true story. The possession took place right here in Maryland, in Mt. Rainier, to a little boy named Robbie. She claimed to have visited the house on Bunker Hill Road where the child lived. She told me that the house still had an eerie feeling. It’s been over 20 years since the first time I’ve watched this movie and it still scares the shyte out of my every time I see it. I’m not sure that I’ve ever watched it all of the way through without closing my eyes or turning my head for at least a second or two.

Not Hot Hotties

Monday, October 6th, 2008

Most of us have, at some point, been attracted to someone who may have lacked classic good looks, but just had “that certain something.” Maybe it’s their personality, maybe it’s their demeanor, maybe it’s only on the days they wear that one red dress. The same sliding scale of hotness applies to certain celebrities – those that you wouldn’t necessarily look at twice if they worked at the mall, but in that one movie, you’d hop into bed with ‘em in a second. Here at Blendetta, we’ve compiled a list of our favorite “Not Hot Hotties” — keep reading to see who made the list… (more…)

StEvO’s Summer Movie Preview: Part 2

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

We’re nearing the halfway point of the Summer movie rush, and what have you gone out to see so far? Maybe you happened upon “The Happening” and are praying M. Night is finally done for. Or saw “The Incredible Hulk” and forgot all about that emotional crapfest Ang Lee gave us. Well we’ve had some good and bad already but there’s much more ahead….

If you missed part 1 of the preview, you can find it here.

JULY 11TH Hellboy 2 - I enjoyed the first one despite it not being a big hit. It’s nice to see a non-Marvel or DC comic making it at the movies. They create nice plot lines and very different characters to work with, and what else would you see this weekend?

Meet Dave - Is Eddie Murphy still funny? Give me Charlie Murphy any day.

Journey To The Center of the Earth 3D - I just saw this trailer two days ago, and cried. How far does this former comedian have to go? Oh wait, there’s another Mummy movie coming soon (ALSO SEE PART 2 OF PREVIEW).

JULY 18TH
The Dark Knight - Ah, my most anticipated movie. And that was long before Heath Ledger’s death. I knew he was going to pull off the dark vision of the Joker that Jack Nicholson camped up in the original version. Don’t get me wrong, he was great (”Where does he get those wonderful toys?”) but I need the insane darkness of the man who killed the second Robin. A complete psychopath, and Harvey Dent on top of it. Nice foreshadowing on his bit with the line, “Some of us die as heroes, and others live long enough to see ourselves become villians”.

Mamma Mia! - ABBA on the big screen and while the band is actually on tour (I think…). With the success of “Hairspray” last year, this one might just pull it off as well but opening against Batman will be really tough to get through.

Lou Reed’s Berlin - One of the famed Lou Reed concerts, on the big screen. If you love music, this is a must.

Space Chimps - Going to be the greatest movie of the summer, just you wait. Monkeys in space, need I say more. How about the voice of Brock Samson? (more…)

StEvO’s Summer Movie Preview: Part 1

First of all, I’ll get this out of the way. Fuck every single one of those critics who bashed “Speed Racer” which was almost every single one. I don’t recommend the movie for everyone to see but if you were a fan of the cartoon, then I think you should be pleased. Plot-more than the show at times. The special effects may be candy-coated over the top eye-popping but so was the cartoon (for the time it came out). It’s supposed to look like a cartoon world, that’s what they were trying to achieve. All of the actors did very well, except Susan Saran-wrap. But I think the worst part was the re-vamped theme song, so it gets my vote of approval. Now onto the rest of the summer….

MAY 2ND
Iron Man - Saw this opening night, and will probably see it again. It’s a very comic accurate movie with great actors throughout the whole movie, and stay till the very end (you know post credits) cos you get an extra scene with a surprise guest. If only he had the line, “Tony, help me get these motherfucking snakes off my motherfucking heli-carrier.”

Made Of Honor - This is one of those reasons the movie business is going down the drain. The same old sentimental drip they have to spoon feed you. (more…)
